Pub of the Year Presentation to The Sportsman on Friday 20th April

On Friday 20th April 2012 at 8pm, we will be making the Pub of the Year Presentation to The Sportsman, Huddersfield HD1 5AY (map).

This forms part of the Sportsman’s 3rd Birthday Weekend celebrations – more details on the Diary Page.

There are also two other local beer festivals this weekend – Milnsbridge Socialist Club 1st Beer & Pork Pie Festival and the Gledholt Male Voice Choir Beer Festival at Marsh Club – more details on the Diary Page.

Beer Festival Sub Committee Meeting at The Sportsman

We will be holding a Beer Festival Sub Committee Meeting at The Sportsman, 1 St Johns Road  Huddersfield, West Yorkshire HD1 5AY at 8pm on Thursday 22nd March 2012.

2 Beer Festivals this weekend

The annual Beer Festival at the White Cross, Bradley Road, Bradley, HD2 1XD (map) started yesterday and will finishe on Saturday 11th February 2010. On Friday & Saturday it is open from 12 noon-11pm.

There will be a mini beer festival at the Rat & Ratchet, Chapel Hill, Huddersfield, HD1 3EB (map) from Friday 10th until Sun 12th February 2012. It will showcase the own-brewed Rat beers, and at least ten will be available on the bar at any one time, with as many as 15 different Rat beers appearing over the course of the weekend. The usual range of Ossett and guest beers will also be available as well as ciders and perries. A discount of 50p per pint on Rat beers will be offered to card carrying CAMRA members. A brewery viewing session will be held between 2 and 5pm on Saturday 11th of February, where people are invited to meet the brewers and ask questions about the beers and brewing process

We had listed a beer festival at the Field Head, Quarmby for 3-4th Feb on the Diary page. This has been postponed until March, date tbc.

Finally, the Junction at Marsh, HD1 4LA (map) has reopened, after being closed for several months, and is once again offering a range of real ale.

Huddersfield Oktoberfest 2011 Beers of the Festival

Here are the results of the Beers of the Festival Competition held at Huddersfield Oktoberfest 2011.

Mild of the Festival:  Fat Lad,  4.5% abv, North Riding, North Yorkshire

Bitter of the Festival:  Citra, 3.8% abv, Mallinsons, Lindley, Huddersfield

Strong Ale of the Festival:  7 Cs of Rye, 7% abv, Summer Wine, Honley, Huddersfield

Stout/Porter of the Festival: Rum Porter, 4.6% abv,  Boggart, Greater Manchester

Speciality Beer of the Festival:  Octoberfest, 4.8% abv, Ascot, Surrey

Cider of the Festival: Whisky Cask Cider, 6.5% abv, Udders Orchard, Huddersfield

David Charlesworth (‘Charlie’) Award for Overall Beer of the Festival:  Rum Porter, 4.6% abv,  Boggart, Greater Manchester

Huddersfield Oktoberfest Beer & Cider Festival 2011

Huddersfield Oktoberfest Beer & Cider Festival 2011 now on between Thursday 13th – Saturday 15th October 2011.

Beer & Cider lists are now available for download.

Once again, it is at the Sikh Leisure Centre (APNA Venue), Spring Grove Street, Huddersfield, HD1 2NX (map).

104 real ales are  available from local & regional breweries, and there are also 52 ciders & perrys.
