Winter Pub of the Season presentation to the Wills O’ Nats on Monday 12th March

We will be making the Winter Pub of the Season presentation to the Wills O’ Nats, Blackmoorfoot, Meltham, HD9 5PS (map) at 9pm on Monday 12th Mar 2012.

Also, please note that, for Branch Members only, online voting for Pub of the Year and Club of the Year are available in the Members’ Area. Online votes must be submitted before midnight on Monday 12th March 2012. You can also vote for Mild Pub of the Year and Mild Club of the Year, but the deadline for those is later,  in May.

AGM at the Rat & Ratchet on Monday 21st Nov

The Branch AGM will be held at the Rat & Ratchet, Chapel Hill, Huddersfield, HD1 3EB (map) at 8pm on Monday 21st November 2011. It will be followed by a normal monthly Branch meeting. Also, there will be the Oktoberfest 2011 Cider of the Festival Award Presentation to Udders Orchard Cider for Whisky Cask Cider.

Pub crawl of Chorlton-cum-Hardy on Sat 12th Nov and other news

We will be having a pub crawl of Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester on Saturday 12th November 2011. It has 6 Good Beer Guide listed pubs, including one which is the home of the Bootleg Brewery.

We will catch the 11:30 Northern Train from Huddersfield Train Station to Manchester Victoria. We will then catch the tram on to Chorlton-Cum-Hardy.

 

I am also pleased to announce that Udders Orchard have won the Yorkshire Cider of the Year 2011 for their “Whisky Cask Cider”. The presentation will take place on Sunday 20th Nov at 3:30pm in the Rat & Ratchet. The same cider also won the Cider of the Festival award at Huddersfield Oktoberfest – the presentation for that will be at the Branch AGM on Monday 21st Nov which starts at 8pm, also at the Rat & Ratchet.

 

Finally, Brambles Cafe & Bar has opened in Holmfirth. Formerly the White Hart, it has been extensively refurbished and now offers 7 real ales & a real cider. The pub is managed by Jonny Holmes, formerly of the Commercial and Swan in Slaithwaite.

 

Huddersfield Oktoberfest 2011 Beers of the Festival

Here are the results of the Beers of the Festival Competition held at Huddersfield Oktoberfest 2011.

Mild of the Festival:  Fat Lad,  4.5% abv, North Riding, North Yorkshire

Bitter of the Festival:  Citra, 3.8% abv, Mallinsons, Lindley, Huddersfield

Strong Ale of the Festival:  7 Cs of Rye, 7% abv, Summer Wine, Honley, Huddersfield

Stout/Porter of the Festival: Rum Porter, 4.6% abv,  Boggart, Greater Manchester

Speciality Beer of the Festival:  Octoberfest, 4.8% abv, Ascot, Surrey

Cider of the Festival: Whisky Cask Cider, 6.5% abv, Udders Orchard, Huddersfield

David Charlesworth (‘Charlie’) Award for Overall Beer of the Festival:  Rum Porter, 4.6% abv,  Boggart, Greater Manchester

Mild Club of the Year 2011 Presentation & an Independent Brewery crawl around Huddersfield

On Friday 1st July 2011 at 8pm,  we will be making the Mild Club of the Year 2011 Presentation to Marsh Liberal Club, Marsh, Huddersfield, HD3 4AL (map).

This coincides with the first day of their two day Beer Festival.

Catch the 19:46 372 First Bus from Westgate, Huddersfield.

 

On Monday 4th July 2011 at 7:30pm, we will be having a crawl around Huddersfield town centre to see how many independent brewery beers we can manage.

We will meet Slubbers Arms, Hillhouse, HD1 6HW (map) at 7:30pm. Then we will move on to the Sportsman, Kings Head, Cherry Tree & finish at Grove approx 10pm.

Also, on Saturday & Sunday this weekend it is the Monkeyfest 5 Beer Festival at Armitage Bridge Monkey Club, Dean Brook Road, Armitage Bridge, HD4 7PB (map).
