Social Crawl of Marsden & Online Voting

On Monday 5th March 2012 we will be doing a Pub Crawl of Marsden.

We will start at 8pm at Marsden Socialist Club, Manchester Road, Marsden, HD7 6EW (map). We will on at 8:30pm to Marsden Liberal Club, Peel Street, Marsden, HD7 6EU (map). After that, onwards as the mood takes us.

Catch the 19:15 182 First Bus from Huddersfield Bus Station, or the 19:30 train from Huddersfield Railway Station.

We hope to see you there.

 

Also, please note that, for Branch Members only, online voting for Pub of the Year and Club of the Year are available in the Members’ Area. Online votes must be submitted before midnight on Monday 12th March 2012. You can also vote for Mild Pub of the Year and Mild Club of the Year, but the deadline for those is later,  in May.

Pub crawl of Chorlton-cum-Hardy on Sat 12th Nov and other news

We will be having a pub crawl of Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester on Saturday 12th November 2011. It has 6 Good Beer Guide listed pubs, including one which is the home of the Bootleg Brewery.

We will catch the 11:30 Northern Train from Huddersfield Train Station to Manchester Victoria. We will then catch the tram on to Chorlton-Cum-Hardy.

 

I am also pleased to announce that Udders Orchard have won the Yorkshire Cider of the Year 2011 for their “Whisky Cask Cider”. The presentation will take place on Sunday 20th Nov at 3:30pm in the Rat & Ratchet. The same cider also won the Cider of the Festival award at Huddersfield Oktoberfest – the presentation for that will be at the Branch AGM on Monday 21st Nov which starts at 8pm, also at the Rat & Ratchet.

 

Finally, Brambles Cafe & Bar has opened in Holmfirth. Formerly the White Hart, it has been extensively refurbished and now offers 7 real ales & a real cider. The pub is managed by Jonny Holmes, formerly of the Commercial and Swan in Slaithwaite.

 

Beer Festivals, Branch Diary

Huddersfield Oktoberfest Beer & Cider Festival 2011

We will be having an Oktoberfest beer mat distribution Social at the Rat & Ratchet, Chapel Hill, Huddersfield, HD1 3EB (map) at 8pm on Wednesday 5th October 2011. Please come along and take some beermats away to help promote the festival.

 

Huddersfield Oktoberfest Beer & Cider Festival 2011 will take place between Thursday 13th – Saturday 15th October 2011.

Once again, it will be at the Sikh Leisure Centre (APNA Venue), Spring Grove Street, Huddersfield, HD1 2NX (map).

Around 90 real ales will be available from local & regional breweries, and there will also be an extensive range of cider & perry.

We hope to see you there – either helping, drinking or both. More details can be found on our website here.

Holmfirth Crawl on Wed 31st August

We will be doing a Holmfirth Crawl on Wednesday 31st August 2011 at 7:30pm.

We will meet at the Rose & Crown (Nook), Holmfirth, HD9 2DN (map) at 7:30pm.

We will then move on to the Carniceria at 8:15pm. Then on to Hervey’s, Old Bridge and Box Office.

Busy days ahead

We will be having a social day out on a Rail Crawl of the Penistone Line on Saturday 13th August 2011. We will be taking the train to Sheffield and then stop off at various stations on the way back to Huddersfield

  • 14:23 dep Elsecar, 14:33 arr Barnsley

  • 17:34 dep Stocksmoor, 17:43 arr Berry Brow
  • 18:50 dep Berry Brow, 18:57 arr Huddersfield
  • Strict timings, as there is only an hourly service on the Penistone line

Huddersfield Food & Drink Festival in St George’s Square, Huddersfield has begun and runs until Sunday 14th August 2011. It is one of Yorkshire’s largest free food and drink festivals. Amongst the exhibitors are Elland Brewery, Little Valley Brewery, Natural Cider Company, King’s Head, Nook Brewhouse, Sportsman, Star. More details here .

There is a Beer Festival at the Foxglove, 6a Penistone Road, Kirkburton, Huddersfield, HD8 0PQ (map) from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th August. 20 beers will be available.
