Rat & Ratchet, 20 Continuous Years in the Good Beer Guide

This year marks a special anniversary for the Rat & Ratchet, one of Huddersfield’s most endearing real ale pubs. It is one of only a few local pubs to have featured continuously in every edition of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for the last 20 years. This is an outstanding tribute to the succession of owners and landlords who have consistently served Good Beer Guide standard real ale since the late 1980’s.

Here are the results of the Beer of the Festival Competition held at Huddersfield Oktoberfest 2009.

Overall Beer of the Festival:  Scarlet Pimpernel 4.4% abv, Mallinsons Brewing Co., Lindley , Huddersfield

Mild of the Festival:  Tamarin Mild 3.6% abv, Brass Monkey Brewery, Sowerby Bridge, Halifax

Best Bitter of Festival:  Scarlet Pimpernel 4.4% abv, Mallinsons Brewing Co., Lindley, Huddersfield

Strong Ale of the Festival:  1845 6.3% abv, Fullers, London

Porter of the Festival:  Guthlacs Porter 5.0% abv, Golcar Brewery, Golcar, Huddersfield

Stout of the Festival:  Oatmeal Stout 4.3% abv, Mallinsons Brewing Co., Lindley, Huddersfield

Runner Up:  Shot in the Dark 8.0% abv, Elland Brewery, Elland, Halifax

Speciality Beer of the Festival:  Marble Ginger 4.5% abv, Marble Brewery, Manchester

Summer Pub of the Season Presentation at Wills O’ Nats, Blackmoorfoot

The Summer Pub of the Season Presentation will be at the Wills O’ Nats, Blackmoorfoot HD9 5PS (map) at 8pm on Mon 26th Oct.

Catch the 19:15 182 bus from Huddersfield Bus Station & then walk/lift from Blackmoorfoot Turning Circle.

On the return, we will walk/lift to Blackmoorfoot Turning Circle & catch the 22:18 182 bus back to Huddersfield Bus Station
